A fantastic clip has been posted on Twitter by Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher during his appearance on Monday Night Football on Monday, funnily enough, analysing the Reds’ defending with the absence of £76 million colossus Virgil van Dijk.

Carragher talks about the differences in the club’s approach without van Dijk, with him saying that many people would have thought Liverpool would defend deeper against Leicester City on Sunday but instead stuck to their usual approach as stated by the former Reds defender below…

I think the video is fantastic – in my personal opinion you always get some great analysis from Carragher, the man knows football, and no-one can tell me otherwise.

Carragher talks about Fabinho and Matip’s game together against Leicester City from Sunday, discussing that the initial thought would be that the Reds would defend deeper against the Foxes with Jamie Vardy in attack due to his speed but it was completely the other case.

I agree with what Carragher says though – the Reds have clearly felt comfortable enough with Matip and Fabinho’s ability even without van Dijk – the Dutchman is quick to react and has a good bit of pace behind him hence the side defending with a high line usually – this time around Fabinho did a great job at holding a high-line with Matip who has often had to play like that alongside van Dijk in the past anyway.

Both Fabinho and Matip did a great job against Brendan Rodgers’ side and despite a couple of occasions where they could have dealt with long balls over the top better – but all in all, it was a strong performance with an all-important clean sheet.
