Bolo Zenden feels like he’s making a fresh start at Liverpool after a serious knee injury sidelined him for much of his debut season at Anfield.

The Dutch midfielder has been regaining his fitness and has been one of Liverpool’s better performers in their pre-season games so far.

‘It feels like a new start at Liverpool this season after being injured for eight months,’ claimed Zenden.

‘These friendly games have been really good for me to get back into fitness and playing again.

‘With the hard training sessions and tough games, it’s done me good. I took a bang on my knee in the last match and although it was a scary moment, it felt alright. Now I’m looking forward positively to the start of the season.’

Zenden also voiced his concerns about the venue for the return leg of Liverpool’s Champions League game against Maccabi Haifa.

‘It’s clear we don’t want to go to Israel,’ said Zenden.

‘Obviously nobody wants to go. ‘I was at Chelsea a few years ago when there was some controversy over a European game and at that time I decided I would go to Tel Aviv. Several other players decided not to go.

‘That was a long time ago, but the situation is much different this time. At that time the issue was the build up to the Gulf War and whether something might happen in Israel, whereas now it’s a war directly impacting on the country.’
