Ajax v Liverpool: Starting XI Prediction

|

Liverpool still face numerous injury issues as they travel to face Ajax in the Champions League on Wednesday night, with a point being enough to progress. Here is how we think Jurgen Klopp will set up his side:

Goalkeeper- Alisson

The Brazilian finally seems to be getting the credit he deserves, labelled as “the best keeper in the world” by Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand. This man literally wins games for Liverpool from his own goal line, immense.

Defence- Trent, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson

Trent Alexander-Arnold should come back into the starting lineup after missing the Nottingham Forest match at the weekend, with Klopp’s side seriously lacking any sort of creativity. Andy Robertson should also be able to contribute to this, giving his usual 110% up and down the left flank. Virgil Van Dijk is starting to hit form and will continue alongside Joe Gomez at the back, with Ibou Konate not quite ready to start a full game just yet.

Midfield- Fabinho, Henderson

Jordan Henderson should come back into the side after being left on the bench at the weekend. The midfield was nowhere near good enough at the weekend, with Curtis Jones getting a surprise start alongside Fabinho. The Brazilian simply only keeps his place in the team because of the absence of Thiago Alcantara.

Forwards- Salah, Firmino, Nunez, Carvalho

Darwin Nunez will return from his injury at the weekend alongside Roberto Firmino, who got took off early at the weekend. I expect to see Mohamed Salah and Fabio Carvalho either side of the two centre forwards, with Carvalho only playing the 60 minutes on Saturday in comparison to Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones playing the full 90.

Bench: Kelleher, Adrian, Ramsay, Konate, Phillips, Tsimikas, Milner, Bajcetic, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jones, Elliott, Clark.

Score Prediction: Ajax 2-2 Liverpool (Salah, Nunez)
