Alan Shearer criticizes Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo

Premier League legend Alan Shearer has criticized Liverpool’s new boy Cody Gakpo. During the chat show after the Wolves vs Liverpool game, he stated that he ‘lacked enthusiasm’ during his side’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Wolves on Saturday afternoon.

The Premier League’s all-time top scorer said that Gakpo’s off-the-ball effort throughout the game ‘wasn’t good enough’ as Liverpool had yet another day to forget.

It’s become so common that there’s not much left to criticize the team other than how they keep repeatedly making the same mistakes. This is the most worrying for Liverpool fans and pundits as they have yet to understand why Jurgen Klopp cannot get them to change their mentality going into a game.

For someone like Gakpo, the only January signing, the 23-year-old has had a horrible start to life at Liverpool. This is also because the entire team is having a nightmare of a season, and it is not easy coming to a rocking ship. Gakpo is yet to register a goal or assist in three Premier League games and three FA Cup matches.

According to Shearer, as mentioned in Match of the Day“This is what Jurgen was on about,” said Shearer. “No pressure on the ball. That’s not good enough from Gakpo (allowing the Wolves to play the ball forward on the flanks). No energy.”

Things will have to change for Gakpo and Liverpool. Unfortunately, with how things are going, Gakpo will need more time than expected to become more effective for Liverpool.
