Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid was one of the club’s most disappointing defeats in recent memory, yet despite the poor result and performance, one man stood out as the sole performer for the Reds.

Georginio Wijnaldum was one of Liverpool’s best-performing players on the night, with the Dutch international scoring the opening goal of the match and taking the game to extra-time, with WhoScored awarding the midfielder a 9.0 rating, the highest out of any name for Merseyside club.

And according to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, Liverpool are currently in advanced talks with Wijnaldum over extending his current deal at the club to 2023, and plenty of supporters on social media have flocked the Reds’ official Twitter account begging them to announce that the 29-year-old has opted to renew with the Anfield side.
