Are Liverpool pursuing Madrid attacking player?

Many transfer windows have come and gone, but one player who has constantly been linked to Liverpool is Real Madrid’s Spanish attacker, Marco Asensio. He has great experience and time on his side, making him an attractive proposition for clubs across the globe.

Liverpool was briefly linked with the Real Madrid attacker in the summer transfer window that just passed. However, nothing was concrete, and nothing really materialised for either the club or the player. Liverpool did not make any formal approach to Real Madrid.

One of the reasons may be because Asensio’s current contract is set to end at the end of the season with little to no signs of Real Madrid handing him an extension. This could make him available for free next summer. Knowing how Liverpool like doing their business, a player of his talent available for free is worth waiting for.

Other than Liverpool, AC Milan and Arsenal were also linked with Asensio. Next summer, if he is available for free, there will certainly be a number of options for him.

According to a report in Football Espana, Madrid is already putting down a plan for after he leaves. Given the current front line that Madrid has, he has fallen down the pecking order and does not start as many games as he would appreciate.

Asensio told Mundo Deportivo last week, “From January, I can sign with any club; normally, many rumours come out. I had many messages from my friends. I haven’t thought about it, nor have I considered it; I can’t give you an answer. We will see what happens; you never know in football. I don’t know what will happen.”
