News just in, it’s been announced that:
Sky and BT Sport will pay £5.136bn to share live Premier League TV rights from 2016-2019.
As an initial offering, this is a £2.1bn or £700m per season increase over the current deal.
Under the new deal the BOTTOM PLACED CLUB in the PL will be guaranteed about £100m
Part of the package is live Friday night matches for the first time.
The report also says: ‘Clubs will have to address ticket prices to make sure the stadia remain full. Maybe there will be increased hard work for the clubs.’
A big element to the deal perhaps? Fans attendance has started to dwindle as times are shifted more and more and prices seem to forever increase despite more money being poured into the game by tv and sponsorship.
In total Sky have five of the seven available packages. They will show 126 live matches.
BT sport have two packages to screen 42 games.
Sky will screen:
Package A – Saturday 12.30pm,
Package C – Sunday 1.30pm,
Package D – Sunday 4pm,
Package E – Monday and Friday evenings
Package G – Bank Holidays and other Sundays
BT will screen:
Package B – Saturday evening 5.30
Package F – Midweek fixtures.
The deal shows an increase of over 70%, or £10,190,476 per game.
Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Scudamore, said: “Premier League clubs deliver competitive and compelling football to fans in stadiums and on television, driving interest levels to new heights. Last season saw record levels of attendance with the highest top-flight crowds since 1949/50, as well as increased viewing figures across all our UK rights holders.”
Adding, “Both Sky Sports and BT Sport have done a tremendous job in bringing the game to the fans as well as providing the revenue that allows clubs to invest in football, facilities, youth development and their communities. It is an endorsement of what the Barclays Premier League delivers that these broadcast partnerships have been extended and enhanced today. We are grateful for the continued belief that Sky Sports and BT Sport have in the Premier League and our clubs, both as a sporting competition and organisations to work with.”
