Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been heavily featured in the headlines recently over his calls for the changes in match scheduling and TV broadcasting after his concerns over player welfare and injuries.

The German has talked frequently on the issue and many other individuals in the media have aired their opinion as well, including ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy, who stated on TalkSPORT that Klopp’s argument “just doesn’t wash” with him…

It is a difficult situation to try and comprehend – I can understand Klopp’s argument completely as he isn’t just talking for Liverpool football club, he is talking for the whole league. This season the Reds have felt suit to a bountiful of injuries with seven first-team members currently on the sidelines.

Do you agree with Jurgen Klopp?

Murphy agrees with Klopp on the five substitutes rule surprisingly – which would give teams the chance to field five subs throughout a game rather than the three they are given now, which is something that has become a popular motion with Premier League managers with now around 15-16 agreeing towards the new rule.

I think the ex-Liverpool man has a right to his opinion and he clearly feels that Klopp’s calls over the kick-off times aren’t a valid argument – another aspect to his argument is the amount of time and effort it would take to be able to make these changes is the hardest part as it isn’t something that can change overnight.

It is true that the five sub rule is something that would aid to close midweek and weekend kick-off times as it gives more chance for players to gain that little extra bit of rest during a game, aiding Klopp’s arguments over player welfare – but overall, it will always be an issue that we likely won’t be able to change.
