Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Bayern Munich’s departing defender David Alaba in the summer, with the Austrian international set to leave the German giants at the end of the season on a free transfer.

The Reds face some real competition with Spanish giants Real Madrid also heavily interested in Alaba and considered the favourites to secure his signature, but that hasn’t swayed Liverpool away from minimising their interest or trying to secure his services.

However, new reports from Alaba’s camp have suggested that the 28-year-old has an interesting demand for whoever his new club will be, and that is that he wants to move to playing in midfield rather than in defence during the next steps of his career, as cited by AnfieldWatch on Twitter…

Despite the initial reaction being a bit of a surprise to Alaba’s demands in regards to his position change, it isn’t actually that big a shock given his experience in midfield for Bayern over the years.

Alaba has plenty of experience as a defensive midfielder and has always been known as a versatile asset for the German club. You can see on Transferarkt the variety of positions that Alaba has played during his career with anything from centre-back, to left-back, to left-midfield, and even in central midfield too.

Do you think Alaba would be a good signing?

No

His versatility is a massively positive asset to have and something that Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of when recruiting new players with the likes of much of the Liverpool squad able to operate in different roles depending on the needs of the rest of the team.

I think Alaba would be a great signing no matter what and would bring a lot to this Liverpool side in regards to depth and quality in both defence and in midfield given his wish during the next steps of his career.
