Last night saw Jurgen Klopp’s side 1-0 victors over Dutch side Ajax in their fifth group stage game of the Champions League, with the Reds securing qualification to the knockout stages of the competition as winners of Group D.

Overall the reaction to the win was positive, with some interesting views from some of the Liverpool faithful on Twitter, including from freelance Liverpool journalist David Lynch, who offered his thoughts on the performance against Ajax…

Lynch isn’t wrong, the performance was far from the Reds at their best but it was still enough to get the job done as he says, an importing and battled out win.

His take on the Atalanta result is the first time I’ve seen someone point that out in fact, that the Reds were gifted some good fortune by the Italian sides draw to FC Midtjylland last night giving Klopp’s side the top spot in Group D.

Had the Italian side won in Denmark, it would have left Liverpool needing a win to ensure their qualification to the next round of the European competition no matter the result between Ajax and Atalanta next week – something that has now given the Reda an opportunity to rest some key players on their trip to Midtjylland to try and boost match fitness again due to the game no longer being a must-win.

Our lineup against Midtjylland will be an interesting one and I think it will be a great chance for us to see some of the younger fringe players get some game time. One player, in particular, I’d like to get a better look at is Billy Koumetio, the French defender trained with the Reds first-team during pre-season and looks a real player for the future.
