We all need a good laugh now and then, especially with the dip in form that Liverpool are currently experiencing – and that has been more than produced by former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann, who has produced this crazy statement over new boy Thiago.
The former midfielder was a guest on TalkSPORT breakfast this morning and was asked about his thoughts on the Spaniard, to which Haman replied saying that he isn’t the right fit for the Liverpool squad and that he slows down play – which is against the way the Reds play… I know, crazy isn’t it?
😫 “Thiago slows things down & doesn’t play the way Liverpool play.”
👍 “They had midfielders less skilful but who played the ball quickly.”
🔴 “Thiago likes possession but #LFC were good playing quickly.”@DietmarHamann isn’t sure if Thiago’s the right fit at Liverpool. pic.twitter.com/ZG10119xs6

I love Hamann, he did great things at Liverpool and was a big part of my childhood as a Liverpool fan, I grew up watching him in midfield for the Reds – but this opinion is genuinely crazy.
Against United, Thiago was the heart of the attack for most of the game for Liverpool and dominated all areas of the midfield – in fact, Liverpool’s Twitter account put together a showreel of Thiago’s performance, and if anything he sets the tempo himself, keeping play quick and slick in the midfield alongside Xherdan Shaqiri, which you can see below…

You can also see from my player analysis after the United game, where I focused on the man of the match performance from the Spaniard and see just how well he played both in attack and in defence – he is the perfect Jurgen Klopp midfielder and is willing to cover all aspects of the game for the Liverpool midfield.
I’m amazed that Hamann actually thinks this, I would have expected a player of his experience and calibre in his day to know what Thiago can bring and what he can offer Liverpool’s midfield – it brings another dimension that is desperately needed at times for the Reds.
