Liverpool’s new forward Diogo Jota has been sidelined since the start of December after picking up a knee injury against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League, which stunted his impressive start to life on Merseyside.

Since then, the Portuguese forward has been working hard with his recovery despite the initial thoughts that the injury was just a bruised knee but his time on the sidelines suggests that the injury was worse than initially expected.

However, some positive news has come out of the Liverpool camp with the £40m forward edging closer to a return to the Liverpool XI, with him expected to join full training by today with the hopes he may be back in contention for our games against Chelsea and RB Leipzig in March – according to The Telegraphs Chris Bascombe on Twitter…

In my opinion, this is huge news for the club and something that could change the hopes and stance of the side managing to secure a top-four spot for next season’s Champions League competition after our recent form has all but hampered our initial aim of retaining our Premier League title.

Missing out on Champions League football next season could be catastrophic in regards to the club’s finances and with the current lack of goals between the front three, other than Mohamed Salah, the return of Jota to our attacking options will be huge in regards to our hopes for the rest of the campaign.

Was Diogo Jota Liverpool's best signing in the summer?

Jota had a great start to his career with the Reds managing  9 goals during his 15 appearances for the club in the Premier League and Champions League, and hopefully, he will be able to return to this form when he finally recovers.

What do you think Liverpool fans, are you excited to see Jota return? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below…
