Speaking to BeIN Sports via Get French Football News, Man City winger Riyad Mahrez claimed that there was ‘interest‘ from Liverpool before he opted for the blue half of Manchester – with the Algerian claiming our intrigue halted upon signing Mohamed Salah.

Mahrez, who has scored seven goals and assisted eight others in 15 Premier League starts for our rivals this campaign, claims things could have been different as director of football Michael Edwards allegedly had the 29-year-old on his radar.

However, Mahrez went on to state that our interest in him was ‘finished’ as soon as we signed Mohamed Salah from AS Roma in a £34 million deal.

Should Liverpool have signed Mahrez?

Reacting to the alleged past interest, and a supposedly ‘top decision‘ from Edwards opting to recruit Salah instead, plenty of Liverpool fans have flocked to have their say over the quotes.

One supporter even claimed we ‘dodged a bullet’ despite his fairly impressive stats – find all of their best comments down below.
