Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea’s wantaway forward Timo Werner should’ve joined Liverpool instead of the London club.

Frank Lampard convinced Werner to join his ranks at Chelsea two years ago; at the time Werner was one of Europe’s hottest properties after a successful stint with Bundesliga club RB Leipzig.

Werner was touted to join Liverpool to play under his compatriot Jurgen Klopp, however, the allure of London life and a big salary to match ultimately made the decision for him.

Now it seems Werner is looking for a way out of Stamford Bridge, after failing to capture the heart of Thomas Tuchel, who has seemingly given up on the German international.

Speaking in his column for CaughtOffside, Romano states that the German’s style of play would’ve fared better in Liverpool’s system.

“In my opinion, Werner is a high-level player but he needs a different style of play to shine: because of this, I feel a move to Liverpool instead could have helped him fulfill his potential.”

“Unfortunately, Chelsea were quicker at the time, with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to the player, but no direct talks between the Reds and RB Leipzig.”

It’s hard to argue with Romano’s statements, after seeing how Werner’s time at Chelsea has played out, nevertheless, fans of the Reds will undoubtedly be happy their club missed out this time.
