Liverpool Legend Robbie Fowler aka God, is praying his appearance against Villa last weekend won?t be his last one in a Red shirt and is hoping for at least another year at his beloved Anfield.

During Saturdays traditional end of season lap of honour, the supporters chanted his name all around the ground but Robbie insists he has more to offer and is not yet ready to say his goodbyes.

‘It was a touching moment for me when the fans were chanting my name at the end of the game, but I hope they don’t think it was a send-off for me,’ said Fowler.

‘I haven’t heard anything about a new contract but I’m still hoping that Saturday won’t be my last game at Anfield for Liverpool.’

‘I really do feel I have got plenty left. Even I have been slightly surprised with the way I have got stronger and stronger this season.’

‘I know my body, I’ll be the first to recognise when I’m not up to it. But to be honest I feel great and I really don’t want Saturday to be my last game at Anfield.’

‘These are exciting times at Liverpool,’ he added. ‘Look at what the manager has achieved since he came here and the progress the club has made.’

‘With a couple of decent signings in the summer, there is no doubt the club can be challenging for the title next season. You’d be mad not to want to be part of that.’

‘It has always been my dream to win the league with Liverpool and I’d love to stay around and give it a go.’

‘I’ve had plenty of interest from other clubs, and I’m told there are some offers on the table. But all I am interested in is getting a new contract and building on what I have achieved since I came back to Anfield.’

This seems to be a bit of a no-brainer to me and surely Robbie must be given an extended contract. The decision is of course Rafa?s to make but to me it would make no sense not to sign him. All the reason?s used for signing him in the first place are still very much the case but there is now even more besides. It would seem crazy for us to spent the last 6 month?s getting him back to near peak fitness and then allow him to leave.

We have had but a tantalising glimpse of what a fully fit Fowler could do for us in the short time he?s been here. Although much lacking in fitness and having played hardly any football in the year before he came here, its amazing to think that in his 15 appearances for us, many of them as a late sub, he has managed to find the net 7 times, even though 3 of his efforts have been ruled out, it still demonstrates that he knows where the net is and it makes the mouth water to think what he would be capable of with a full pre-season under his belt.

In financial terms it also makes sense. Fowler may have once been regarded as a bit of a wild boy but he has been shrewd with his investments, making him one of the wealthiest players in the game and financially secure for life. Its obvious that he is delighted and honoured to be back playing for the club he loves, so he is hardly likely to damage our wage budget. So come on Rafa, give him a contract and let The Legend continue.
