Luis Diaz has had a bright start to his Liverpool career, after signing for the club last season in the January transfer window from Porto.

The Columbia international has now had the chance to fully settle into the squad’s way of doing things and enjoyed his first full preseason with the club.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp believes the forward will only benefit from this and has high hopes for what the 25-year-old forward can achieve this season.

The boss spoke to Liverpool’s official club website about Diaz’s development.

“Not with Luis specifically. We don’t take him out, ‘Because the other two scored and you didn’t, come on here, I show you how.’ It’s unnecessary. It’s not even a problem, it’s just the moment. But, of course, we do finishing and that helps him, like it helps the others. We spoke last week about it when Sadio left, everybody was, ‘How can you play without Sadio?’ In November, December everybody thought when he will score the next goal but he’s starting all the time, so these kind of things.” Said the German tactician.

“He improved definitely, of course, with understanding what we are doing, these kind of things. But that leads then a little bit to strange situations as well because we want to be flexible on the wings, stuff like this, and that means he has to be slightly more inside.”

Klopp went on to say how he believes Diaz is still in the learning process and nothing happens overnight.

“But then you realise for him it’s quite good if he stays longer outside and these kind of things, so we get used to that. That will help. Unfortunately, it’s always like this, a learning process, [it] never goes overnight.”
