Liverpool were held to a point for the second successive week in what has been a lackluster start to their 2022/2023 campaign.

Wilfred Zaha opened the scoring at Anfield after a silky counterattack saw Palace catch Liverpool out, however, this was just the start of what would be a long evening for the Reds.

Darwin Nunez was dismissed early in the second half for violent conduct, nevertheless, a sublime goal from Luis Diaz managed to give Liverpool a point on the night.

19-year-old Harvey Elliott, who was a stand-out performer for Jurgen Klopp’s team on the night, spoke of his disappointment to Liverpool’s official club website.

“I think the mood in the changing room sums it up really,” the youngster said post-match.

“We came here to win, unfortunately we couldn’t do that today but it’s a point. We haven’t been beaten, which is the main thing, and we’re just going to take it into the next game. Hopefully we can put it right.”

Elliott spoke of the team’s great resilience to fight and come back and win a point.

“Palace came here with a game plan and it worked for them. I think the boys showed great resilience and great fight and desire to come back and grab the goal from Luis – a bit of magic from him. We need these players in these tough times.”
