So there it is. The end of an unforgettable season.

The 2019/20 Premier League campaign will be one that Liverpool fans won’t forget for the rest of their lives. Eradicating the elephant in the room. The absence of that one trophy is no more.

Jurgen Klopp’s side finished the campaign with 99 points following his side’s 3-1 victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park, which now leaves them to settle their business during the summer transfer window.

With the campaign temporarily suspended, concerns have been raised about finances which saw the Reds’ pursuit for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner fall through.

Responding to a question from a fan on The Athletic’s Q&A session, James Pearce answered a question relating to cherry-picking players from relegated sides, and who he would bring to Anfield.

Would you bring Jamal Lewis to Anfield?

No

No

Pearce said: “I like Lewis from Norwich. I think he would be a decent deputy at left-back.”

Jamal Lewis is a 22-year-old left-back, who has heavily featured for Daniel Farke’s side this season. From 33 appearances in all competitions, he scored just once which came against Leicester City during the Canaries’ 1-0 victory back in February.

It has been a tough season for Lewis, who was in a team that picked up just 21 points all season. From his own point of view, the £9.9m-rated youngster can be pleased with the way that he has performed.

In the league, Lewis has averaged 1.8 tackles, two clearances, and 1.2 dribbles from over 2000 minutes of play, as per Whoscored.

Pearce is right. Lewis would be a solid backup for Andy Robertson in defence, with the Daily Mirror reporting back in January that Liverpool were looking at a double swoop for him as well as Emiliano Buendia.

Time will tell about the Reds’ summer budget. Having emphatically won the league, there may be more money to play with than first thought.
