One of the biggest transfer sagas for the club in recent history has been that over Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, who has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield in the summer.

Wijnaldum’s contract runs out with Liverpool at the end of the season and since the January window has been able to freely discuss possible free transfers and contracts with other clubs across Europe, with the likes of Barcelona and Inter Milan being linked with a move for the 30-year-old.

Recent revelations have revealed that both clubs are no longer interested in a move for Wijnaldum which is great news for the Reds, but this has led to the club and player still having to agree on a new contract. Both Klopp and Wijnaldum want the contract sorted but the situation is described as complicated, likely with the club not wanting to meet the salary demands that Wijnaldum wants, as cited by AnfieldWatch on Twitter…

It appears as though the club and Wijnaldum have been struggling to agree on a deal, with the Dutchman feeling this is his last chance for a big bumper contract due to his age and his career starting to close over the next 4-5 seasons.

I completely understand this as well, with Wijnaldum wanting to be rewarded for what he has done at the club which I think is completely fair given our successes over the last few seasons – all of which Wijnaldum has played a huge role in and has been a regular starter for the Reds ever since joining.

Should Liverpool keep or sell Wijnaldum?

Hopefully, Wijnaldum and the club will be able to come to some form of agreement and find a contract that will work for both parties but if the issue is coming down to the club not wanting to pay his wage demands then they need to change that mindset instantly.

What do you think Liverpool fans, will Wijnaldum stay at the club? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below…
