Top of the Premier League and safely through to the knockout stages of the Champions League, the 2018 / 2019 season has all the potential to be a great one for Liverpool Football Club.
However, here at Vital Liverpool, we’re acutely aware that we’re only ever a couple of defeats away from the scenario changing dramatically and also aware that there is still a long way to go before any kind of glory can head our way.
Nevertheless, it is a great position to be in and we’ve every right to crow about it, even more so with a mouth-watering Premier League fixture, against our old rivals, Manchester United to look forward to this weekend.
Following the narrow 1-0 win over Napoli, a win that saw Liverpool edge into the knockout stages of Europe’s premier competition, it was a chirpy Jurgen Klopp that faced the media.
After seeing his £66 million goalkeeper, Allison, produce a wonderful save, in stoppage time, to ensure Liverpool made the last sixteen, Klopp had nothing but praise for the Brazilian, remarking and as published by the BBC,
“If I knew Alisson was this good I would have paid double.”
Klopp was also appreciative of the goal Mo Salah scored but just couldn’t help himself heaping more adulation on his goalkeeper when he added:
“The goal Mo scored – what a goal, unbelievable – but the save Ali made I have no words for that. That was the lifesaver tonight.”
And when it came to, what was basically, living on a knife-edge, the German further added:
“It was wild and there were lots of counter-attacks but we were ready for that. That is Anfield live and in colour.
“Wow, what a game. I am not sure a manager could be prouder of a team than I am.”
They did you proud Jurgen.
Onwards and upwards as they say.
