Despite Liverpool falling short against Manchester United on Sunday with a 0-0 draw against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp still had plenty of positives to take from the game.

This included a spirited performance from Reds’ versatile forward Xherdan Shaqiri who had previously been linked with a move away from the club this month but instead was announced that he would remain – and what a great decision it has been, with Klopp highlighting Shaqiri’s performance despite being out of the side for so long, as quoted by AnfieldWatch on Twitter via the Liverpool Echo…

I agree with Klopp, I think Shaqiri was a bright spark during much of the first half for the Reds and looked pretty sharp considering how long it has been since the last started a game.

It was a big ask for him to be thrown into the mix for such a big game in Liverpool’s calendar but he looked a constant threat and played some real cute passes in much of the club’s build-up play alongside Thiago and I think the pair played really well together.

Will Shaqiri be important during this period?

No

Shaqiri needed to make a big statement given the recent rumours surrounding his future on Merseyside and I certainly think he is on course to cause some concern over Klopp’s selection as it was hard to ignore the impact he had on us going forward throughout the game – it was just a shame that neither he nor the Reds front three could find the net as it would have sealed a performance with plenty of positives.

Hopefully, we will see more chances come to the Swiss forwards way after his spirited display as I feel he can bring a new dimension for Liverpool going forward that is clearly needed at the moment.
