Ahead of Saturday`s trip to Stoke City, Kenny Dalglish has reported a clean bill of health for his returning international stars and also confirmed Steven Gerrard is nearing a return.

The Liverpool manager expects to have Charlie Adam available despite him missing Scotland`s midweek Euro 2012 qualifying match against Lithuania with a hip problem. Dalglish also praised Scottish counterpart Craig Levein for not risking the 25 year old by saying: “Charlie should be alright for the game.

“I think it was right what Craig Levein did in not playing him on Tuesday. To get him back was commendable of Craig Levein.”

Glen Johnson has returned to full training following the thigh problem which has been troubling him since the start of the season but like captain Steven Gerrard it remains to be seen if he will be risked this weekend with the team playing so well in their absence.

When pushed for further information concerning Gerrard, who hasn’t played since March due to an ongoing groin problem, Dalglish told those gathered at his pre-match press conference: “He’s not far away.

“When Steven is ready to come back it will be a fantastic boost for everybody. The transfer window is shut, so for us it will be a real bonus because it will be like a new player coming back.

“As he said himself in an interview on Saturday, everything feels really strong, fresh and he’s happy with where he’s got to and what he’s done – and we’re delighted for him.”
