According to an exclusive report from media outlet DW, Liverpool are ‘monitoring‘ Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz alongside Premier League rivals Man City and Chelsea – with the Reds facing a potential battle for his signature.

As well as our English counterparts, Ligue 1 giants Paris-Saint Germain are also said to be keeping up to date with the 21-year-old’s progress, with DW claiming that Chelsea currently lead the race to sign him while the Reds and City linger behind.

Should Liverpool sign Kai Havertz?

Havertz, who has scored 12 goals whilst assisting six of his teammates in the Bundesliga, has attracted attention from Europe’s biggest outfits due to a string of exceptional performances – with the German bagging a total of 17 strikes in all competitions this season from midfield.

An impressive tally for any playmaker, the 6ft 2 colossus has also amassed an 85.4% pass accuracy over 2019/2020 according to WhoScored – highlighting his ability as a creative outlet in the middle of the park.

However, while Havertz is debatably one of the continent’s brightest talents, his sky high valuation certainly reflects that notion – with Leverkusen reportedly slapping a €100 million (£90.1 million) price tag on their man.

Indeed, the ‘exceptional‘ youngster’s fee potentially means that the likes of City, Chelsea and PSG have an advantage on the financial front – but the pull of manager and compatriot Jurgen Klopp could also be a factor.

While Klopp recently suggested he stay at Leverkusen for another season, the German boss has made no secret of his admiration for Havertz as a player – recently lauding him as a ‘great‘ asset.

Whether or not we take the plunge in future remains to be seen, but Liverpool face a potential battle for his signature from both rivals and in a financial sense.
