Three days after taking points off Manchester City, Sunderland have done Liverpool another massive favour…

A controversial 82nd minute penalty, ironically converted by on-loan Liverpool forward Fabio Borini, has condemned title chasing Chelsea to a shock home defeat this evening.

The Blues would have gone to the top of the Premier League with a victory but instead suffered a first ever loss at Stamford Bridge under Jose Mourinho.

Despite their heroics, Sunderland, who also cost third-placed Manchester City points in midweek, stay bottom but they do move within three points of safety.

The Black Cats fell behind to an early Samuel Eto’o goal but equalised in the 18th minute courtesy of Wednesday night’s hero Connor Wickham.

Chelsea remain two points behind Liverpool but have now played a game more. City are a further four back.

The Merseysiders are in action at Norwich City on Sunday and know they can take a massive step towards a first championship since 1990.

Brendan Rodgers‘ men play Chelsea at Anfield next weekend.

The Table As It Stands

2. Chelsea – P35 | PTS 75 | GD +41
3. Man City – P33 | PTS 71 | GD +54
