Liverpool are represented in the latest League Cup team of the round that has been selected after this week’s action.

The performances by Trent Alexander-Arnold and Daniel Sturridge in the two one fourth round victory over Tottenham Hotspur last midweek at Anfield was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the League Cup competition.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why both were selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the EFL Cup blurb read.

‘Alexander-Arnold made his first-team debut for Liverpool, and faced a stern test against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield. But the 18-year-old delivered a performance beyond his years, earning a standing ovation from the Reds faithful following a fine showing in the 2-1 victory.’

‘Sturridge just loves this competition. Handed a starting role against Tottenham, the England international scored twice to make it 10 goals in his last eight EFL Cup appearances.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to both for their recognition, but the most important thing about the game was of course the win and progression through to the next round.
