It might not have been up there with the epic European nights we’ve witnessed at Anfield, but the win over Napoli, last night, was certainly one of the most nail-biting affairs we’ve witnessed for a while.

Needing to win, thereby going through into the knockout stages, courtesy of our superior record against the Italian side, Liverpool started at a fast pace, pushing the Italian side back but always aware of the threat Carlo Ancelotti’s side presented.

The deadlock was broken in the 34th minute when Mo Salah, scored from the narrowest of angles, although the Napoli goalkeeper, David Ospina, might look at the replay and believe he could have done better.

However, the goalkeeper did pull off some decent stops to prevent Liverpool from doubling the lead, thwarting Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk.

But, as the final whistle approached, Liverpool knew that if they conceded a goal they would be knocked out and that almost proved to be the case win injury time.

However, Alisson showed he really is among the best goalkeepers in the world when he pulled off a stunning save to deny Arkadjusz Malik.

One negative aspect from the game is that Virgil van Dijk will be suspended for the next Champions League game after falling foul of the referee.

But the huge positive is that we’re through, now bring on the draw and let’s see who we get.
