According to an update from le10sport, Liverpool are eyeing Marseille defender Boubacar Kamara as an alternative to heavily linked Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly – with the centre-back currently valued at £24.3 million by Transfermarkt.

Kamara, who started 24 Ligue 1 matches before the league’s untimely postponement due to recent events, is reportedly seen by manager Jurgen Klopp as a capable defensive option to partner Virgil van Dijk in the centre of defence as a transfer alternative to Koulibaly, who the Manchester clubs are also targeting.

Should Liverpool sign Kamara as a Koulibaly alternative?

Yes, bring him to Anfield

Yes, bring him to Anfield

No, we have Gomez

Indeed, due to Koulibaly’s lofty transfer fee and the extra competition from our elite Premier League rivals, it appears we may turn to Everton target Kamara ahead of a potential swoop.

The Frenchman, standing at 6ft, is still only 20-years-old and could command a cheaper price than Koulibaly who is slowly approaching the twilight phase of his career – potentially marking Kamara out as a realistic candidate for our back line.

Even though current Reds defender Joe Gomez has arguably proved himself when starting alongside Van Dijk this season, fellow centre-back Dejan Lovren is allegedly close to leaving Anfield – with the club now seemingly on alert for targets who can provide strength in depth.

Despite his valuation, le10sport claim it would take an offer greater than €30 million (£27.4 million) to persuade Marseille into a sale – but he may be worth the swoop.

According to WhoScored, Kamara averages more tackles per 90 than Gomez and the entire Liverpool squad – as well as being labelled a ‘phenomenon‘ by Braga defender Rolando.

Taking this into account, his pedigree is clear, but only time will tell whether the newly elected Premier League champions decide to outbid our Merseyside rivals.
