Liverpool fans excited as Van Dijk and more return to training

|

Liverpool fans finally have something to be happy about after an awful start to 2023, as four key players returned to training today.

Virgil Van Dijk, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Arthur Melo were all pictured in first-team traning for the first time for quite a while.

The Reds are currently sat 10th in the Premier League and knocked out of both domestic cups after winning just one of their last seven games in all competitions.

Jurgen Klopp’s side has been awful defensively, with Joel Matip and Joe Gomez being the latest defensive partnership due to Van Dijk and Konate’s injuries.

With the Dutchman now back, one of those will definitely lose their spot in the side and to be completely honest neither deserve to stay in the side.

Some supporters have even claimed that Nathaniel Phillips should partner Virgil Van Dijk, dropping both Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.

However, the Reds have been just as woeful in attack, scoring just one goal in the Premier League since the start of the new year.

Hopefully Jota and Firmino could add a much-needed boost, as Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo all find themselves in a really poor run of form.

Unfortunately, it is unlikely that we will see either start any games over the next couple weeks- especially Jota after a four month injury.

Many reporters have suggested that another forward in Luis Diaz should be back available halfway through March.

Finally, despite only playing twenty minutes since his arrival on loan from Juventus in the summer, Arthur Melo could get some gametime but will need to build up fitness after a five month spell on the sidelines.
