Liverpool: Fighter Roy Won’t Quit

He might be under pressure however Roy Hodgson has come out fighting and insisted that he’s a fighter and has no intention of walking away from Liverpool. Rumours before the Napoli match were saying that Roy was ready to quit but his fighters attitude leaves this thought far from the first thing on his mind as it’s actually the last thing, as he explained to Sky Sports News:

‘You read these ridiculous websites that we have and resignation has never once entered my thought and, what’s more, never will.

‘I pride myself on being a bit of a fighter, I pride myself on being able to stand the bad times.

‘I’ve had a lot of good times recently – Barclays Manager of the Year last year, great accolades here and there and everywhere – I realise in football you don’t get the accolades all the time, sometimes you have to bite the bullet and fine.

‘It disappointments me that there are so many ridiculous websites, every day someone tells me that there is a new rumour about something that’s supposed to happen and I think it’s rather unfair that serious people use those rumours and then ask me questions because I shouldn’t even be answering that question as it’s literally never entered my mind and, what’s more, won’t enter my mind.’

Roy sees Liverpool as a work in progress, as he continues to try and rebuild the club, and believes he’ll make the progression that he wants as he’s here for the long haul doing this with a smile on his face and not being concerned by the rumours linking Frank Rijkaard with his job, after the Dutchman was installed as the odds on favourite to takeover from him.

It’s a good attitude, and one that I do like to hear as it’s been questioned that he’s not been showing enough of a fighters attitude (which could come across as not caring), but it’s the results on the field that will do the talking for Roy and he must utilise the quality that he has at his fingertips in the right way. In my honest opinion a less cautious approach needs to be adopted as we’ve got too much attacking quality not to be using this in the right way.
