Which players are struggling to be fit for Liverpool vs. Crystal Palace?…
Liverpool face a potential defensive crisis this weekend when they welcome Crystal Palace to Anfield.
Joël Matip, Lucas Leiva (both unspecified muscular problems) and Ragnar Klavan (knee) are all struggling to be fit for the encounter, which could lead to teenager Joe Gomez being given his first Premier League outing since September 2015.
Discussing the matter at his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Reds manager Jürgen Klopp remarked: “We have to find a solution for the weekend.
“Gomez played again for u23s this week – maybe we will try him.
“It’s not 100 per cent that Matip/Lucas/Klavan will be out but they are not training in this moment.”
The game will definitely come too soon for midfielders Adam Lallana (thigh) and Jordan Henderson (foot), although they both remain possibilities for next weekend’s trip to Watford.
Elsewhere, Sadio Mané, Danny Ings and Adam Bogdan are out for the season (knee) and it looks increasingly likely that Ovie Ejaria could suffer a similar fate because of a ruptured syndesmosis.
Palace will arrive on Merseyside without defenders Scott Dann (knee) and Pape Souare (broken leg), plus forwards Connor Wickham (knee) and Fraizer Campbell (hamstring).
Manager Sam Allardyce must also check on the availability of James Tomkins and Loic Remy with both players suffering from calf complaints.
Neither side is currently missing any players through suspension but Mamadou Sakho is unavailable for the Eagles against his parent club.
