Which players are struggling to be fit for Liverpool vs. Middlesbrough?…
Roberto Firmino, who missed last weekend’s 4-0 win at West Ham United, faces a late fitness test on his muscular injury.
Despite the Brazilian forward not taking part in full training all week, manager Jürgen Klopp remains positive over his availability.
“He was not part of team training,” commented the former Borussia Dortmund boss at his pre-Middlesbrough press conference on Friday. “But that’s not a problem after this long season.
“We will make a final test tomorrow. At this stage I’d rather say yes than maybe.”
Given the previous result, and the importance of a win in Liverpool’s quest to finish in the top four, Klopp is likely to stick with the same attack-minded X1, unless Firmino is able to recover sufficiently.
Elsewhere, captain Jordan Henderson has failed to overcome the persistent foot problem that has blighted his season and will again miss out, along with fellow long-term absentees Sadio Mané, Danny Ings and back-up goalie Adam Bogdan (all knee).
Already relegated Middlesbrough head to Merseyside with no new fresh injury concerns but must check on Victor Valdes (ribs), Gaston Ramirez (groin) and former Reds defender Daniel Ayala (ankle).
Neither side is currently missing any players through suspension.
