Since leaving the club back in 2018, English striker Danny Ings has gone on to become one of the most prolific forwards in the Premier League – and has been linked with a move away from current club Southampton in search for Champions League football.

The news comes after Ings himself opened up about wanting to feature in the European competition with the belief that he can still play at the highest level in the game and I don’t doubt that one bit.

Despite being offered a contract extension at the Saints which would make him the best-paid player in the club’s history, Ings has held off from putting pen to paper with the hopes of joining a Champions League club at the end of the season and Liverpool could be interested according to the LiverpoolEcho.

Would Danny Ings start over Roberto Firmino?

Last season proved the best in the Englishman’s career with a 22 goal season in the Premier League and it is clear that Ings is back to his best after a difficult period when moving to Liverpool all those seasons ago.

Ings joined the Reds in 2015 under Brendan Rodgers and had a relatively positive start but the Northern Irishman was sacked and replaced by Jurgen Klopp at the start of the 2016/17 season and within just one week of his arrival at just 23-years-old, Ings ruptured his cruciate knee ligament which saw him sidelined for over a year multiple surgeries required – and by the time he had returned to the squad, Klopp had found his winning formula upfront with Sadio ManĂ©, Roberto Firmino, and Mo Salah.

It was a shame to see the now 28-year-olds career at Liverpool start and end the way it did as there is no doubt he is a talented forward and could have really succeeded on Merseyside had his fitness not have let him down. However, we could see him get a second chance under Klopp if the Reds were to make a move this summer.
