Following the disappointment of a loss to Stoke City last week, Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish hopes his side can overcome a difficult visit to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

A less than impressive recent record against the Londoners includes defeats in Liverpool`s four previous visits to White Hart Lane. Harry Redknapp`s men also won at Anfield in May, completing a league double in the process and effectively ending Liverpool`s chances of European football this season. Despite the recent record the manager is hopeful of a vast improvement.

“It is up to the players to show their strength on the pitch,” Dalglish told the Liverpool Echo.

“We will try our best to improve on that performance from the game in May and try to improve the result.

“We will always try to entertain, we will always try our best. I can only follow the philosophy in which I was brought up playing and I cannot be anybody else. That was the way I was brought up.”

Despite their stuttering start to the season, which has seen Spurs lose two of the three league games they`ve played, Dalglish knows the match won`t be easy.

“Spurs are going to be right up there until the end of the season, whoever else is going to be there I don`t know but I certainly think Spurs will be there,” he added.

“They have faced the two Manchester clubs and lost both times but I don`t think they were at full strength. They are a difficult team and it is up to us to play well against quality opposition.”

The reversal at the Brittania Stadium last time out doesn`t appear to have dampened the positive mood around the red half of Merseyside. In addition to Steve Clarke`s upbeat response to defeat a couple of days ago, Kenny Dalglish sounds confident ahead of what will no doubt be a challenging game.
