Despite struggling for minutes at Anfield, Rickie Lambert has been named as one of four Liverpool players in the latest England squad…

England manager Roy Hodgson has today named a 26-man squad for the Euro 2016 qualifier with Slovenia at Wembley on 15 November and a friendly in Scotland three days later.

The most eye-catching inclusion is 21-year-old West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino, who is handed his first senior call-up after scoring seven Premier League goals in the opening ten games of the season.

From a Liverpool perspective, there is no place for fit-again full-back Glen Johnson but midfielders Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana and Raheem Sterling, plus forward Rickie Lambert, are included.

Lambert’s place in particular had been in doubt as a result of his lack of first-team involvement since rejoining the Merseysiders from Southampton in the summer.

The 32-year-old has made only one Premier League start, playing a total of just 164 minutes in the competition.

The Three Lions currently sit atop of European Championship Qualifying Group E with a maximum nine points from their opening three fixtures.

Elsewhere in the squad there is a well-deserved recall for former Liverpool winger Stewart Downing.
