With Liverpool’s defensive options almost bare to the bones, the Reds have been linked with a number of players ahead of the January transfer window.

One of those names, in particular, is 20-year-old Ajax defender Perr Schuurs, who has impressed since making his way into the Ajax first team this season after a successful loan to Fortuna Sittard last campaign.

Since the start of this season, Schuurs has played 6 league games for the club in the Eredivisie, averaging 1.7 tackles, 1 interception, and 2.3 clearances per game. On top of this, Schuurs has averaged 1.5 aerial duels won per game and has a 90.6% pass success rate, highlighting his ball-playing abilities from defence, something that matches the style of absentee Liverpool defender van Dijk.

The club has also been linked with moves to other defenders such as Bayern Munich’s David Alaba, and Schalke 04’s Ozan Kabak – but only time will tell on who, or even if, the club will make a move for in the coming months.

Schuurs stands at 6’3 and would be a great option for the Reds defence even without the current injury list.

The Mirror reported two days ago of Liverpool’s supposed interest in Schuurs and pointed out that youngster was on trial at the club when he was 17, with the Reds now finding themselves full circle, with Schuurs gaining the club’s attention once again. However, the 20-year-olds current market value sits at £8.10 million, so an offer above this number will need to be made in order for the club to turn any heads over a transfer for the defender come January.
