According to a report in Monday’s edition of Il Mattino via Area Napoli, Liverpool are interested in a swoop for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly – and the player’s agent is currently in negotiations with chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis to whittle down the asking price.
Koulibaly, who has started 14 Serie A games this season under Gennaro Gattuso, is currently a highly sought-after defensive target – with Liverpool now reportedly ‘interested’ in bringing the 6ft 2 colossus to Anfield.
Could Liverpool snap up Koulibaly?
Yes, bring him to Anfield
No, far too expensive
Indeed, as per Il Mattino, the Senegalese stalwart is currently being eyed by three huge European clubs in Liverpool, Paris-Saint Germain and the Reds’ bitter rivals Man United.
The player’s agent, Fali Ramadani, is also negotiating with the club in order to whittle down his lofty €90 million (£80.7 million) minimum asking price – but chairman De Laurentiis is apparently remaining as stern as ever in regards to the expected fee.
As a result, Ramadani faces a huge task in securing a move away from Italy for his ‘extraordinary‘ client, with current circumstances debatably dictating that Liverpool would not spend such a huge amount to secure his signature.
Manager Jurgen Klopp has already seemingly ruled out audacious transfer swoops, which could mean it’s unlikely for now that we will land our man.
Judging by his past heroics at Anfield, it’s little wonder why we allegedly wish to sign Koulibaly – especially considering the 28-year-old dominated star Reds striker Roberto Firmino.
During our 1-1 draw with Napoli in the Champions League back in November, Koulibaly won 100% of his aerial duels up against Firmino whilst also making eight clearances and blocking two shots as per SofaScore.
Whether or not Ramadani manages to lower his price tag remains to be seen, but if we were to capture him, it would arguably be a stellar coup.
