Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has left out Anfield duo Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Leiva from his 23-man World Cup squad…
Liverpool stars Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Leiva will not be present at this summer’s World Cup.
The midfield duo were both included in Luiz Felipe Scolari’s preliminary 30-man Brazil squad but were amongst the players culled on Wednesday.
Other notable absentees who will not be participating for the tournament’s host nation are Kaka, Robinho and Lucas Moura.
Out of the Liverpool pair, Lucas is perhaps the more notable omission given he featured in a number of friendlies for the Samba Stars around the turn of the year.
The 27-year-old, who has 24 senior caps to his name, will be devastated by the development having previously talked about his pride in wearing the famous yellow shirt.
“Playing in the World Cup with my country, with my friends and family around, would be amazing,” commented Lucas to Liverpoolfc.com back in October.
Coutinho on the other hand has just one full cap to his name and that was earned back in 2010 while with Inter Milan.
Scolari’s men are in Group A alongside Croatia, Mexico and Cameroon.
