Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Fulham coupled with Man City’s latest goal rout has virtually ended our chances of finishing in the top four this season. The Reds Boss felt that we had enough of the play, and chances, to have won the match however goals win matches and we couldn’t find the breakthrough, as he explained to Sky Sports:

‘I am disappointed because I feel that we had plenty of possession.

‘We had good chances and it is a game that is normally 1-0 or 2-0, but we couldn’t score.’

Rafa has now conceded, with us now six points behind Man City who lead Tottenham and ourselves in the race for fourth, that finishing in the top four is now unlikely, as he also explained:

‘It is not in our hands, it depends on the other teams and the difference is too much now, maybe.

‘We have to keep going because it is always important to do your best and try to finish as high as possible.

‘We will try to win the rest of the games and try to win the Europa League.’

The Spaniard however refused to say that he regretted guaranteeing a Champions League place would be earned by the end of the season. I’m sure that part of him does regret saying that but Rafa is right when you’re the manager of a club like Liverpool you’ve got to have genuine belief in the club and what we should be achieving. Realistically just finishing fourth wasn’t enough however this is the minimum that we should accept and those are the targets he should be setting, the fact that we will not meet this (most likely) leaves us in trouble but we’ll just have to see what this future does bring?
