The lowdown on the man in the middle for Liverpool’s trip to Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night…
The Premier League has announced the officiating teams who will be taking charge of top-flight fixtures during Matchweek 25 of the 2017/18 season.
The players of Liverpool and Huddersfield Town, who meet at the Kirklees Stadium for a 8.00pm GMT kick-off on Tuesday, January 30, will be joined on the pitch by referee Kevin Friend.
Simon Bennett and Mark Scholes are his designated assistants, while Jonathan Moss will be patrolling the technical areas in the role of fourth official.
Friend’s 21 previous games this season have yielded a total of 50 yellow cards and one red.
Liverpool have won all three of their games under his control this term without conceding, including beating Huddersfield 3-0 at Anfield on October 28 (one yellow card shown, zero to Liverpool).
The hosts, meanwhile, also suffered defeat (2-0) with Friend in the middle when they travelled to West Ham United in September (three yellow cards shown, one to Huddersfield).
The Leicester native’s yellow card average this campaign currently stands at a miserly 2.38-per-game.
Friend is associated with the Leicestershire and Rutland County Football Association and has been part of the Select Group of Premier League referees since 2009.
