The lowdown on the man in the middle for Liverpool’s hosting of West Ham United on Saturday…
The Premier League has announced the officiating teams who will be taking charge of top-flight fixtures during Matchweek 28 of the 2017/18 season.
The players of Liverpool and West Ham United, who meet at Anfield for a 3.00pm GMT kick-off on Saturday, February 25, will be joined on the pitch by referee Stuart Attwell.
Richard West and Mark Scholes are his designated assistants, while Martin Atkinson will be patrolling the technical areas in the role of fourth official.
Attwell’s 21 previous games this season have yielded a total of 70 yellow cards and one red.
Liverpool lost their only previous match played under the 35-year-old’s control this term, going down 2-0 to Leicester City in the EFL Cup in September (three yellow cards shown, two to Liverpool).
West Ham have drawn both of their 2017/18 encounters with Attwell, including against Burnley in October (1-1) when former Reds striker Andy Carroll received his marching orders for two bookable offences inside the opening 27 minutes.
The Nuneaton native’s yellow card average this campaign currently stands at 3.33-per-game.
Attwell is associated with the Birmingham County Football Association and was first promoted to the Select Group of Premier League referees in 2008.
He was subsequently demoted back to Football League duty in 2012 before earning a recall in 2016.
