Liverpool have suffered at the hands of injuries this season, with the first-choice central defensive pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez both out injured for the remainder of the season over the past few months, leaving the club with just one senior centre-back in Joel Matip.

With that effect on the squad, Liverpool have reportedly decided to completely change their transfer policy and rip up their initial plans ahead of the January transfer window next month according to Sunday World journalist Kevin Palmer…

The interesting takeaway from Palmer’s article is that the club will be looking to sign a ‘young defender with top tier experience in the English game’ – which completely throws many of the defenders linked with a move to the club in recent weeks into the bin.

Names such as Dayot Upamecano, Eder Militao, Milan Skriniar, and Ibrahima Konaté are no longer in contention if the description of the club’s target is true, meaning Klopp will be wanting to sign a defender already playing in the Premier League with still plenty of years ahead of him.

One name that has been thrown into the hat by Sunday World is Brighton defender Ben White, who has enjoyed a good start to the current season with the Seagulls after his successful loan with Leeds United last season, which saw him help the club to promotion to the top division for the first time in 16 years.

I think White would be a great signing for the club, still young at just 23-years-old and with experience and talent in abundance within the English game.

This season the youngster has averaged 2 tackles, 1.9 interceptions, and 1.8 clearances, as well as 1.8 aerial duels won per game. With a current market value of £13.5 million, he could also come at a great price given his potential.
