Jonjo Shelvey made his first start for Liverpool in a competitive match in yesterday’s Europa League draw in Naples and the teenager is looking for more chances. The players that performed against Napoli did themselves proud and Jonjo feels that he repaid the faith placed in him by Roy Hodgson with a good performance on the biggest night of his career, as he explained:
‘It has to be the biggest night of my career, doesn’t it?
‘I thought I started the game a bit shaky, but as the game wore on my confidence grew and grew.
‘The manager put a lot of trust in me to play, but I feel I’ve repaid him and hopefully I can get more chances.’
The England U19 international will most likely be limited to EL football this season however the former Charlton midfielder isn’t doing his chances of forcing his way onto the substitutes bench regularly in Premier League matches any harm at all as he was impressive, one of the few that was, in our Carling Cup defeat against Northampton when he came on also.
