Liverpool announced the signing of Portuguese attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho from newly promoted Fulham yesterday.

The 19-year-old represented England up until U18 level before switching allegiances to his homeland and earning several U21 caps.

The Red’s had previously attempted to secure Carvalho’s services in January, in a deal that saw Welsh fullback Neco Williams head to Craven Cottage on loan for the rest of the season, but both clubs ran out of time to complete the transfer before deadline day had passed.

Carvalho has netted 11 times in 38 appearances for the Cottagers this term and was key to Marco Silva’s side securing the EFL Championship title.

The midfielder becomes the second teenager to make the switch from West London to Liverpool in the last three years, with Harvey Elliot joining Jurgen Klopp’s squad from Fulham in 2019. As with Elliot’s move, the transfer will be subject to a tribunal and the Merseyside outfit will pay a compensation fee. The deal is reportedly worth £5 million with a further £2.5 million in add-ons.

Carvalho officially moves to Anfield on July 1 penning a five-year contract.
