Trent Kone-Doherty is Liverpool’s latest acquisition, with the talented 15-year-old signing for the Reds after impressing Liverpool scouts with his performances for Derry City’s under 19s.

Approaching his 16th birthday this week, Kone-Doherty will be allowed to sign his first professional contract and the talented young winger will officially join the Reds in July.

Speaking to the Derry Journal, Derry U17 coach, Gerald Boyle, believes the starlet has the class and attitude to take on his new challenge on Merseyside and adapt to whatever challenges come his way.

“Trent has that ‘x’ factor, he’s got something special. His one-on-one ability is excellent. He has got serious, serious pace but the biggest thing about him is that he has a brilliant attitude.” He said.

“Those qualities, as well as his physical and technical abilities, will take him a long way because he’s a great kid to work with and, as I said, he wants to learn and get better. Hopefully that takes him a long, long way in the game.”

The Derry U17 coach went on to say how tough it is to make it in the English top-flight, however, he believes the youngster has the skillset to thrive there.

“Of course it’s going to be tough. The Premier League is a tough environment but you know what, Trent has got a really, really good chance because he has got that something special.”

It’ll be interesting to see how much the talented starlet can progress in the coming years as part of the Liverpool youth setup, there is undoubtedly no better place to learn your craft in the football world at this moment in time.
