Liverpool: Stats Preview 17/18 – Everton (Away)

Another Premier League outing for Liverpool FC is fast approaching and, as per usual, we’ve been trawling the record books to bring you all the facts, figures and statistics you need to know.

Sandwiched between the two legs of Liverpool’s massive Champions League last 16 tie with Manchester City is the small matter of a Merseyside derby with Everton at Goodison Park this weekend.

Here’s what caught our eye:

• Liverpool and Everton have contested 281 competitive matches during their respective histories with Liverpool leading overall courtesy of 118 wins to 82 defeats and 81 draws (source: 11v11.com).
• Liverpool’s 2-1 FA Cup win in January extended their record-setting unbeaten run against the Toffees to 16 matches.
• Their last defeat was in a league fixture at Goodison Park in October 2010 (2-0) – the subsequent 16 encounters have yielded eight wins and eight draws.
• Four of the last five Premier League meetings at Goodison Park have ended level, although Liverpool did win the last such meeting 1-0 last season.
• That victory was thanks to an injury time winner from Sadio Mané – it was Liverpool’s fourth 90th minute winning strike against Everton, no other side has had more against a specific opponent in the Premier League era.
• The Senegalese attacker, who was on target in the 3-0 midweek Champions League win over Manchester City, also scored at Goodison the previous season when with former club Southampton (April 2016).
• There have been 21 red cards shown during Premier League matches between these sides, the most of any fixture in the competition. Everton have been shown 14 of them, also the most for one side against another in the Premier League.
• If Liverpool win, it will be the first time since 1989/90 the club have managed to win 10 or more away games in consecutive top-flight seasons.
• Seven of Everton’s last eight Premier League defeats at home have been to ‘big six’ sides, with the only exception being Burnley’s 1-0 win there in October of this season.
• Mohamed Salah has scored 29 Premier League goals so far this season (38 in all competitions) – one more will see him become the first African player to hit 30 in a single campaign in the competition’s history.
• Those 29 goals have been worth 15 points to Liverpool – more than any other players’ goals have in the division this season.
