Stevie Gerrard is in confident mood following the Europa League draw on Friday. The Liverpool captain knows that it’s a tough group however it’s one that he’s looking forward to and is confident, as he should be, that we’ll get through, as he explained:

‘It’s a strong group and I’m certainly looking forward to the games.

‘The media will make us early favourites I’m sure, because of our experience in the Champions League and last year in the Europa League.

‘I’m confident we can get out of the group but it will be tough. The draw has given us some difficult challenges.’

It’s already been well documented that the EL isn’t the priority for the Reds with the Premier League (and a return to the Champions League next season) and the domestic Cups, in particular the FA Cup, being the main focus. However this doesn’t mean that the EL isn’t going to be taken seriously as it’s one that Stevie still wants us to do well in and look to win as we aim to end our baron spell without a trophy, as he also explained:

‘I don’t think the Europa League is the priority. Everybody knows that our league position, where we finish at the end of this year, is the priority.

‘But it’s another trophy, it’s a big cup.

‘We haven’t won a trophy for four years now so it’s important we put a good show on in all the cup competitions and try to reward the fans with a final.’
