Liverpool: Target All You Want But You Won’t Get!

No real surprises, as Man City’s new found wealth was always going to see this link come up at some point, and today is the day when they are linked to Stevie Gerrard. I think it was in the News of the World today that Man City are planning a double swoop for Stevie and Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien.

It would take at least £80m to land the pair, according to the report, but ADUG are not short of money and this would be a drop in the ocean for them. Man City might want Stevie, and Essien (who wouldn’t) and they might offer £40m, £50m, £60m and so on, but just because they offer this it doesn’t mean that Stevie, or Essien, will go to Eastlands does it! This appears to be the minor detail that is being left out, or at least barely covered, in this Sunday papers quest to sell more copies. The report conveniently overlooks the minor details that Liverpool and Chelsea might not want to sell prized assets, and even if they did the players might not want to go as not all of today’s footballers are motivated by greed.

Can any of us really see Stevie wanting to leave the Reds for Man City? He isn’t motivated by money is he. Maybe our American owners might be, but even they would know what an uproar this would cause on Merseyside and even with an outlandish amount of money we wouldn’t be able to replace our inspirational captain would we, so if he didn’t go to Chelsea a few years ago he isn’t going to go to Man City now. If Hicks and Gillett know what is good for them they wouldn’t even entertain the thought of selling him, as they are unpopular enough as it is already!
