According to German outlet Bild, long-time Liverpool target Timo Werner is currently ‘flirting’ with a summer move despite having extended his contract until 2023 last year – with this piece going on to claim that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp should be interested.
Speaking exclusively to former RB Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick, on top of Bild claiming that the striker is ‘flirting‘ with a change in the summer, the German coach has also suggested that we would be a good fit for Werner due to Klopp’s gegenpressing style of play.
Will Liverpool trigger Werner's £52 million release clause?
Yes, it's happening
Rangnick suggested that this particular method has been drilled into him from an early age, first picking up the tactics during his time at VfB Stuttgart in the ‘next generation‘ and going on to mature at Leipzig since signing for the club back in 2016.
Werner, who has racked up an impressive goal tally this season, netting 21 strikes in 24 Bundesliga starts for his club, has been heavily linked with a move to Merseyside over the last two months – with a previous report from Sky indicating the Germany international is ‘ready‘ to sign for us if we pay his £52 million release clause.
According to Rangnick, Werner’s most important playing assets are his quick switch-over movement and his powerful finish – with Red Bull’s head of sport and development claiming this is why he would best suit a Liverpool switch.
Indeed, judging by his comments, it appears the 24-year-old could be a fine addition under Klopp – but whether or not we do decide to trigger his release clause remains to be seen.
