Which players are likely to be unavailable when Liverpool take on Southampton?…
Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is a doubt with a knee problem that forced him to miss last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur. The 20-year-old hasn’t trained since and is unlikely to be risked with Trent Alexander-Arnold on hand to deputise again.
Midfielder Adam Lallana is available and in contention despite being sent off during a run-out for the U23s on Monday night. The former Southampton captain, who was building up his fitness after injury, was dismissed for grabbing an opponent around the neck, but his three-man ban does not apply to first team games.
Elsewhere, Ragnar Klavan could return (thigh) but Nathaniel Clyne (back) remains sidelined and, with the Champions League set to resume in midweek, manager Jürgen Klopp could decide to rotate his squad.
Should he do so, Joël Matip, Alberto Moreno, Georginio Wijnaldum and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are the most likely to come into the starting X1.
|Possible Liverpool X1|
Saints boss, and former Reds defender and assistant manager, Mauricio Pellegrino has no new injury concerns emanating from his side’s first league win in 13 attempts against West Bromwich Albion last Saturday.
Only striker Charlie Austin (hamstring) will therefore be missing, and his place is again set to be taken by record signing Guido Carrillo, who looked lively during his full debut at the Hawthorns.
