Which players are likely to be unavailable when Liverpool take on Southampton this weekend?…

Liverpool have a number of players whose involvement this weekend is currently regarded as uncertain.

Chief amongst them is Sadio Mané, who returned home early from international duty amid fears of a recurrence of the recent hamstring injury that forced him to miss five matches.

The Senegalese attacker made a quicker than expected recovery from the original injury, which was also sustained on international duty, to feature in the 4-1 win at West Ham United on November 4.

Should Mané be ruled out by the problem again, his absence could potentially be offset, partially at least, by the return of another former Southampton man in Adam Lallana.

The midfielder, who hasn’t featured this season so far due to a thigh issue sustained in pre-season, has stepped up his recovery of late and played in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday.

Club captain Jordan Henderson is also hopeful of playing some part at Anfield on Saturday despite missing the Hammers victory with a thigh problem.

The trio will all continue to be assessed in the lead up to the match but one player definitely ruled out is right-back Nathaniel Clyne, who has undergone minor back surgery and is expected to be sidelined until February.

Elsewhere, Philippe Coutinho (adductor) and back-up goalkeeper Danny Ward (back) both proved their fitness, after recent problems, by representing Brazil and Wales respectively on Tuesday night.

Southampton have a relatively clean bill of health heading into a busy period of the season with record signing Mario Lemina the main doubt for the trip to Merseyside due to an ankle injury.

Defenders Jérémy Pied (knock) and Wesley Hoedt (knee), who had to pull out of the latest Netherlands squad, are also concerns.

Neither side has any players missing through suspension.
